About Me

Current Focus: Sandeep Purao's research deals with the design, evolution and management of complex techno-organizational systems, blending research methods from organizational science and software engineering. Research outcomes include design principles for different classes of IT artifacts, principles for improving deployment efforts, greater understanding of how they can benefit organizational work practice, and explanations of how their introduction can impact organizational work and structure. Sandeep also enjoys reflecting on the craft of teaching in this domain, and develops innovative pedagogical practices.

Outcomes: The research outcomes are available as publications in archival journals, papers in conference proceedings, and software artifacts tied to empirical assessments. Teaching-related content is available as writings on and outlines related to pedagogical aspects of techno-organizational systems.

Reflection (as a Researcher in a field that deals with both organizations and information technologies): Is it possible to articulate Grand Challenges for a research agenda that sits at the intersection of these two domains?

The Past: After completing his PhD in Management Information Systems from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he was on the faculty at the Computer Information Systems department at Georgia State University, before moving to the inter-disciplinary College (then School) of Information Sciences and Technology at Penn State University. He served as the Graduate Student Adviser at the College from 2005 to 2008; and teaches organizational informatics and enterprise integration. Prior to his academic career, he was a practicing Chartered Accountant in Mumbai, India. He received his Bachelor's degrees in Commerce and Law from the University of Mumbai. He also holds an MBA from Northern Illinois University, where he assisted in the Accounting department. More about his Education, and Experience.
